The history of the Weld Arms
The Weld Arms was originally a row of cottages built in the 1700's by the Weld family and became a central part of the village in late 18th Century when they moved the village of East Lulworth outside the Castle walls. In the early 1800's it became an Inn and is rumoured to have been a popular stop for smugglers.

Time Bomb
In 1944, during World War II, a German Bomber believed to have been hit, dropped it's load onto the Village. Over 50 years on in 1994 a bomb was discovered by thatchers re-doing the roof of the pub. With some luck, the bomb never went off! |
Lulworth Castle
The Weld Arms takes it's name from and is owned by the Weld family. The Weld family seat was Lulworth Castle until 1929 when it was ravaged by fire. The castle has recently been restored with the help of English Heritage and opened to the public. Lulworth Castle is now a popular tourist attraction and is only 2 minutes walk from the Weld Arms.
